Wednesday's Yarn - Ripping Out

Sometimes being a perfectionist is a pain in the neck!  I spend a lot of time ripping out if something isn't just right.  If it's not perfect, it's not worth continuing on and certainly not worth wearing later.  So rip...  The Bulky Blue (the pattern The Easy Bulky One) was working up big all right and close to the pattern at 60" across the chest. It's supposed to have 16" ease and I'm a 44' chest.  But I'm also 5' 1" and I felt I would just swim in the thing and therefore never wear it.  I got bold and ripped and surprisingly I felt so good about myself that I had the guts to pull out 2 weeks of work!  (Previous post on this sweater - Knitting The Bulky Blue)

I went down a size to M, which has a 54" chest, which is still plenty of room.  I also switched from needle size 11 to 10 1/2 for the straight stockinette part at top knit at the first.  Some found while doing this sweater in "The Easy Ones KAL" that the knit and purl part created a looser knit than the knit in the round which happens when it is all is gathered together lower down.  It was recommended by the designer to go down a needle size for the top part (I love knitting something with a KAL and having immediate help from the designer and input from others, very helpful!).  I had noticed in my pictures the different sizes of the stitches was noticeable.  So I made the switch.  Now my 10 1/2 gives me 13 stitches to the inch instead of the recommended 12 stitches, but again a tad bit smaller will be just fine by me.  I'm now back to having the front and back on a circular needle, size 11 and knitting my rounds.

Now I'm working to catch up to where I was, but I did get to make some adjustments that I wish I had done at first.  First off I didn't think of leaving a bit of the lightest yarn for finishing the neck.  I have some saved now by not doing the whole beginning back piece in the lightest blue.  Before I ripped out I measured where the light blue came down the front piece and this time I switched to the next darker blue down the back, to match the front.  I'll save a bit of this color too in case I don't have enough for the neck (the pattern has you gathering the rough edges and knitting several rows up for a neckline as part of finishing the sweater).

I'm on a reading binge of Romantic Westerns by Linda Lael Miller.  I read these maybe 5 years ago and I'm not one to re-read books ( unless it's the Outlander series).  But I started with one and I'm thinking it's like candy, they're addictive.  So I'm enjoying myself. Some I got with book credit at a local used bookshop, but I also have enjoyed downloading some from kindle.  My recent read is A Creed in Stone Creek.  Amazon review -
When single attorney Steven Creed becomes guardian of an orphaned five-year-old boy, he trades his big-city law firm for a ranch near his McKettrick kin in the close-knit community of Stone Creek, Arizona. Taking care of little Matt and fixing up his run-down ranch house with its old barn loosens something tightly wound inside him. But when Steven takes on the pro bono defense of a local teen, he meets his match in the opposing counsel—beautiful, by-the-book county prosecutor Melissa O'Ballivan. It'll take one grieving little boy, a sweet adopted dog and a woman who never expected to win any man's heart to make this Creed in Stone Creek know he's truly found home.

  1. I think you made a very good decision on the adjustment on size. I did not do that on a recent sweater and I should have!
