Friday's New Patterns for The March for Science and Some Favorites

I seem to not get off this roll, talking about green hats for the March on Science; but I will talk about another project more next week, I promise with a Hadley Pullover I'm starting.  Just don't expect it to be done fast.  Fast isn't my speed, but I'll enjoy the journey.  So next week more on that and my lovely new yarn.  Just a preview, yarn for the fair isle work -

I've been collecting a few more pattern ideas for the March for Science and people have also sent me ideas or posted suggestions. I'm also posting some really popular hats.  Also below is a list of my previous blogs with a long, I mean LONG list of patterns, over 50 between them and many free.  Thank you Ravelry and the designers who are so generous.

Please note if you can knit in either Green or Green & Blue for the Environment, Ecology and the Earth that would be great so we coordinate!  Those wearing pink hats will blend in perfectly, green and pink looking good together.  Use colors and tones you love.  Dark greens are my preference, but I'm hoping they'll be those who love Lime or Grass green.  Loud colors to create a visual pop!  But do what makes you happy.  We should always enjoy our knitting.  It's a labor of love.

First some of the most popular patterns being used

(if you're only interested in new ones featured skip down below).

Many in Ravelry Group discussions like the "Scientist's March" pool ideas and share patterns.
 A frequent hit is Hemisphere.

Resist Hat

And here's some new hat patterns (to me) that I found:

Someone made this for an Engineer marching.

This is the pattern I'm using - Simple Slouch Hat (Free Pattern)  A simple, fast rhythmic knit, that I so love and it's making a very cool hip hat popular with young geeks today.  I actually was thinking of my  geeky science son who's in an ecology college in Maine (right now he's on his own on a self funded trip to France).  So my thought was what would he wear or his lovely girl wear?  A slouch hat of course!  When I posted my hat online I get this instant response from my son in France- "That's a nice hat!"  Hum, yeah, thinking of you, and others like you.

More patterns for hats, many free, over 50!

  1. Hello! Thanks for compiling this list! I'd love it if you added my pattern for a resistors in series on a circuit (Resistor Hat) found for free here: http://www.craftimism.com/2017/02/resistor-knit-hat.html

I do love that ocean themed one - hadn't seen it before.

    1. No problem, I'll add it! Thanks. I love that ocean one too, the designer shared it with our Ravelry group "Scientist's March".

    2. Got it in and I must say it makes the post better! Visually and it gives the post one more "new" pattern, I felt I didn't have enough, so thanks!

  2. I crochet, help do you have patterns for that? Also, what about the brain patterns? I've seen both knitting and crochet online.

    1. I didn't mention the brain hats because there are so many being knitted and I got on the secret board for the March for Science from the beginning and I've have read over 1,000 comments by scientists on what they want. Many our concerned about the march looking like a recreation of the Women's March in pink. So I, after checking lots of knitters' groups and Ravelry groups all over, and reading lots of posts, I picked what I thought I heard was the dominant choice for color for the march, and that was green. Then someone suggested green and blue for earth tones and I could really see it, what they said. That you could look down from above on all these greens and blues and see the earth. We at that time were only thinking of environmental issues. Then the next day, Earth Day was picked, so that kind of sealed it, colorwise. But, really the thought is to give a more serious tone to the March and pink pussy hats are going to still look awesome next to brain hats, with lots of green and green/blue hats. I'm just trying to make sure the march isn't a sea of pink and it has a unique look like scientists wanted.
OK, crochet patterns, there aren't as many, here's a favorite and a page where there's a bundle of patterns crocheted. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/brain-waves-beanie and http://www.ravelry.com/bundles/beanies-719

    2. Brain hats should actually be gray.

  3. Hats off to you for supporting a good cause. I can't believe the way so many politicians are devaluing data -- and reality!

    1. Good double play on words! Thanks, crazy I've hit 37,834 on this one blog! The resistance is strong! I actually saved an article that I got from the Alt National Forest site on Facebook that explains how a bunch of computer geeks created a program to detect where science data, climate change data has been removed from government documents. It's happening all over without warning.

  4. These are wonderful! One idea I saw for converting a full brain knit hat was to crochet (I think) chains and add the chains to a brimmed cap. For some of the people who prefer to wear baseball-style hats to a beany, especially in warmer climes, can any of these be converted to something we'd add to a mesh baseball cap?

    1. I have seen something like that, check out Ravelry's group Scientist's March, join and there's a whole thread on brain hats, that'll help.
